True Corporation Public Company Limited

Thailand · SET: TRUE.THA ·Market cap:

True Corporation is Thailand's biggest telecom and pay-TV company, selling mobile phone plans, home internet, and television to tens of millions of customers.

True Corporation is Thailand's largest telecom company. It sells the everyday connections people rely on: mobile phone plans, home broadband, and pay-TV. It also owns TrueMoney, a payments app, and True Digital, which runs data centers and cloud services. Most of its money comes from monthly bills — phone subscriptions, internet packages, and TV bundles — paid by ordinary households and businesses across Thailand.

The company was formed in 2023 when True and rival dtac merged, combining Thailand's second- and third-largest mobile operators into one giant. That deal made True the country's biggest mobile carrier by subscribers, ahead of AIS, and gave it a huge share of the market. The logic was simple: two networks and two marketing budgets become one, cutting costs and giving the combined company more power to invest in 5G. Regulators approved the deal only after True agreed to conditions aimed at keeping prices fair and service quality up. The business is capital-hungry. Building and running a mobile network and laying fiber to homes costs a fortune every year, and Thailand's phone market is close to saturated — nearly everyone already has a SIM card. So growth has to come from somewhere else: selling faster home internet, bundling TV and streaming into subscriptions, and pushing digital services like TrueMoney. Competition from AIS and National Telecom keeps pressure on prices, which limits how much True can charge. There is a twist worth knowing. True's biggest shareholder is Charoen Pokphand Group, the Thai conglomerate, with Telenor of Norway holding a large stake after the merger. The company has struggled with profitability — the dtac merger brought integration costs and a chunk of debt — but management has been cutting costs and pushing higher-margin digital and broadband services to turn that around. In short, True is a scale business: it wins by having the most customers and the most efficient network, and it profits only if it can keep costs down while selling more services to each household.
